Partire per lasciarsi alle spalle il passato ed affrontare il futuro senza rimpianti. Cervasio rappresenta questo cambiamento, immaginando di andare incontro al futuro ma guardando indietro, uno sguardo che racchiude la consapevolezza e la voglia di affrontare un cambiamento, una evoluzione.
Opera tratta da un quadro del celebre artista francese William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Originariamente parte del dipinto “Dante e Virgilio,” questo dettaglio assume un significato diverso poiché le figure principali sono state rimosse. I puttini in alto a destra sono incisi a traforo sul fondo della conchiglia, lasciando incisi sul bianco solo alcuni dettagli come la faretra, la colomba e la lanterna. In un’atmosfera tetra, a sinistra si notano dei diavoletti pronti a contendersi le anime dei dannati in lotta.

“Forse fa male, eppure mi va di stare collegato, di vivere di un fiato, di stendermi sopra al burrone, di guardare giù, la vertigine non è paura di cadere ma voglia di volare”, sono i versi che hanno ispirato la realizzazione del cammeo, dove la fuga con la fantasia, appare l’unica via per scappare dalle convenzioni e dalle paure che la vita ti presenta.

Tutte le conoscenze che abbiamo ottenuto, alla fine, non ci rendono liberi, hanno innalzato muri immaginari intorno a noi costruiti con i mattoni delle regole. Tutte le informazioni che riceviamo da media e social non ci fanno vedere la realtà per quella che è.
La particolarità di questa incisione a cammeo è data dalla possibilità di guardare l’oggetto anche capovolto.
I due estremi della nostra esistenza sono rappresentati dal feto e dal teschio, dalla nascita alla morte.
