Il cammeo riprende un classico dell’arte di tutti i tempi: il ‘Dannato’ di Michelangelo, realizzato con la tecnica dell’incisione in negativo sul retro che è visibile in controluce attraverso la trasparenza della conchiglia.

Sfruttando al meglio la conformazione della radice in corallo, l’artista, ha voluto trasmettere l’effetto e l’amore che nutre una madre verso i propri figli.

Tra i soggetti che l’artista preferisce incidere ci sono anche le persone più avanti con gli anni, due donne con due visi diversi rappresentano l’una la sapienza intervenuta con la maturità degli anni e l’altra, la evidenzia il contrasto, con la stoltezza che è legata al cuore dei più giovani.
Una foto ingiallita dal tempo il quale non trasforma e consuma solo una foto ma cambia e trasforma ognuno di noi. Ha sfruttato una caratteristica della conchiglia che in alcuni casi presenta una superficie gialla perdere maggiore significato al titolo del cammeo.
Partire per lasciarsi alle spalle il passato ed affrontare il futuro senza rimpianti. Cervasio rappresenta questo cambiamento, immaginando di andare incontro al futuro ma guardando indietro, uno sguardo che racchiude la consapevolezza e la voglia di affrontare un cambiamento, una evoluzione.
La visione fluida del genere influenza anche l’iconografia classica cattolica. La rappresentazione dell’angelo dalle fattezze maschili non rispecchia più la visione moderna delle immagini sacre, non solo, anche i testi sacri non determinano con esattezza il “sesso degli angeli”. Quindi, un angelo dalle fattezze femminili rende moderna la figura mistica rappresentata dall’artista.
